Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Led Zeppelin are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their legendary sixth album "Physical Graffiti".

To mark the occasion, an updated 50th anniversary edition of the Physical Graffiti Deluxe Edition (3LP vinyl) from 2015 is being released, along with a new Physical Graffiti promotional poster (443 mm x 610 mm) as a bonus.

Physical Graffiti was released on February 24, 1975 in the US (and four days later in the UK), immediately achieving platinum status and was recently certified 17x platinum.

The album is widely regarded as one of the best double albums of all time. The original 15 tracks represent a creative tour de force that explores the band's dynamic musical range - from the driving rock of "Custard Pie" to the exotic construction of "Kashmir" to the funky groove of "Trampled Under Foot".

"It veers from one extreme to the other, but at the same time it's very clearly Zeppelin... I love the album, and it works as a double album. There are some really cracking, infectious tracks." Robert Plant

Physical Graffiti included new compositions such as "Kashmir", "Sick Again", "Ten Years Gone", "The Wanton Song", "Custard Pie", "Trampled Under Foot" and "In My Time Of Dying" as well as unreleased songs from previous album sessions: "Houses Of The Holy", "The Rover", "Black Country Woman" (from the Houses Of The Holy sessions), "Down By The Seaside", "Boogie With Stu", "Night Flight" (from the Untitled sessions, also known as the Led Zeppelin IV sessions) and "Bron-Yr-Aur" (from the Led Zeppelin III sessions).

Jimmy Page began recording in the summer and fall of 1973 in his home studio in Plumpton, Sussex, England. The first recordings took place in October of the same year at Headley Grange in Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio. Further sessions in Headley continued in January 1974. Additional overdubs were recorded at Olympic Studios, where Page completed the album in July 1974.

"We had enough material for an LP and a half, so I thought, 'Let's put out a double LP and use some of the material we'd done before but never released.' I always thought the order of an album was very important, and that was part of my role as a producer." Jimmy Page

'Physical Graffiti' was not only the band's first double LP, but also the first release on their new label Swan Song, which was founded in May 1974. The album's release was announced on November 13, 1974.

"I'm a big fan of 'Physical Graffiti'. It was very versatile. It was probably a high point." John Paul Jones

After their ten-week North American tour from January to March 1975, Led Zeppelin played five sold-out evenings at Earl's Court in London in May 1975. Originally three concerts were announced, but two more were added due to the enormous demand.

"On the last night at Earl's Court we played 'Heartbreaker', 'Black Dog' and a track from 'Out On The Tiles'. With the songs from Physical Graffiti, we have a huge range of material." John Bonham

The band headlined both nights of the Knebworth Festival, which took place at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, England, on August 4-11, 1979. These were Led Zeppelin's first live performances since their 1977 North American tour and their first appearances in the UK since the 1975 Earl's Court concerts.
