NWOBHM And Beyond – The British Metal Box

The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, or NWOBHM for short, is more or less clearly defined in terms of the period it covers and which bands belong to it (Iron Maiden, Saxon, Girlschool, Diamond Head...) and which do not (Judas Priest, Gillan, Motörhead...).

As the title suggests, this exclusive and limited edition box set contains five albums that can and should be associated with the NWOBHM in some way. Two acts released singles during the heyday of the NWOBHM that are now rare and highly sought-after: MARQUIS DE SADE and RHABSTALLION. Both bands are back and still offer British metal today, with MARQUIS DE SADE also having a penchant for epic material. EMOTIONAL SUICIDE were active in the nineties and released a rare, self-produced CD that is often compared to PARIAH or SATAN (with M. Jackson on vocals).

This critically acclaimed work has been remastered and is now included in this box set. However, the members of the group were already active during the NWOBHM era, so one could refer to this as ‘post-NWOBHM’. MALLEUS is the brainchild of former WITCHFYNDE bassist Andro Coulton. In the early eighties, after leaving the NWOBHM legends, he was already active with MALLEUS, as evidenced by the bonus tracks on the CD included in the box set.

The new album ‘Your Nightmare Calls’ combines the typical NWOBHM sound with the rough early punk and heavy rock of acts like the Stooges. MALLEUS have a unique selling point in terms of sound and style. The female-fronted band WAR MACHINE was one of the last bands signed to the iconic NWOBHM label NEAT RECORDS before it closed its doors. The album ‘Unknown Soldier’ was officially released on CD for the first time on Golden Core.
