Over several days in May 1970, the Stooges went to Elektra Sounds Recorders in Los Angeles to record their second and ultimately last album for the label. The idea was to capture the sound of a Stooges concert as well as possible on vinyl. To this end, each track was recorded live in the studio over and over again for many days; in the end, seven tracks were cut from these session reels and rearranged and reassembled to create the original 1970 album. Although Fun House sold poorly and was almost universally criticized when it was first released, it is now recognized as a true American classic.
