Product description

Orbital – Orbital 2 (The Brown Album)

Orbital were critically and commercially successful, which is not necessarily standard for this genre. They were also known for their emphasis on improvisation during live performances, something that is rather the exception with techno acts. They were influenced by other early electro acts, but also by punk. They headlined at Glastonbury Festival, the Royal Albert Hall and the Tribal Gathering, among others. The first Orbital album (also known as 1 or "Green Album") from 1991 was a milestone in electronic music. It is convincing album-length and delivers three classics of the very finest kind with "Speedfreak", "Chime" and "Midnight". Real songs are the exception rather than the rule in this genre....

The second album (also simply 2 or "Brown Album", only in the USA it was officially called 'Orbital 2') was released in May 1993 and reached #28 in the UK album charts. Two tracks absolutely stand out here: firstly 'Lush 3', a hypnotic trance number with a wonderful flute melody and an absolutely kicking groove and then of course there's 'Halcyon', where Kirsty Hawkshaw's voice transports you straight to 'heaven'. A must for all Orbital fans and a good opportunity for everyone else to get to know intelligent underground dance music.
