Rahsaan Roland Kirk: We Free Kings (Acoustic Sounds)

"We Free Kings" is considered one of Roland Kirk's musically more coherent early works. Although the saxophonist and flautist recorded it in January 1961 with two different quartets, he achieved a wonderful balance between bebop numbers and more soulful pieces. The repertoire underlines Kirk's abilities as a composer (seven of the nine pieces were written by him). His interpretation of Charlie Parker's "Blues For Alice" is also brilliant. 

Verve Acoustic Sounds series: completely analog mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original tapes, QPR pressing (180 g), sturdy tip-on gatefold (Stoughton Printing), padded inner sleeve.
