Tony Joe White's "The Beginning" was originally released on CD in 2001. Recorded without frills, Tony Joe records himself playing his classic swamp blues sound.

This album is considered the first album where Tony Joe controlled all elements of the studio. By 2020, Tony Joe White's 29th New West Records released a limited edition colored vinyl pressing, which was the first and only vinyl pressing of this record.

This album was remastered and re-sequenced for this special pressing. Due to popular demand, New West is now reissuing this title on vinyl and CD. The LP is packaged in a standard sleeve with a full color cover.
