Deep Red & Black Smoke Vinyl
Fifth album from the exceptional band - they even top Elephant
The duo from Detroit achieved their worldwide commercial breakthrough with "Elephant". After all the platinum and gold awards (the latter also in Germany), the White Stripes made themselves somewhat scarce as a band Jack White produced albums in the meantime (e.g. Loretta Lynn) and collected Grammys. Meg White made guest appearances in videos (Detroit Cobras) and together they were in front of the camera for cult director Jim Jarmusch.
With "Get Behind Me Satan" they now deliver the fifth chapter of their Gesamtkunstwerk and break new ground both visually and acoustically. The 13 songs, composed on piano, guitar and marimba and, in keeping with tradition, not previously played live in public, were recorded in their own Third Man Studio in Detroit. Their trusted live sound engineer was at the controls and although some tracks sound as if a full orchestra is active, it is only Jack White's sophisticated arrangements of piano and bass that give this impression. For a vinyl version to be released later this year, Meg and Jack will return to the studio and re-record all the tracks live on tape.
