The solo comeback of the talking heads legend

What news at the start of the new music year: none other than David Byrne is launching a new solo album in 2018, in March.

"American Utopia" is the follow-up to "Love This Giant", which he released in 2012 together with multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent.

However, the last solo album by the British-American singer and guitarist and former Talking Heads frontman, "Grown Backwards", was 14 years ago.

Byrne wrote ten brand new songs for "American Utopia" and recorded and produced them in his home studio in New York, at Reservoir Studios, Oscilloscope, XL Studios, Crowdspacer Studio and Livingston Studio 1 in London. He was supported by his long-time creative partner Brian Eno and producer Rodaidh McDonald.

The musician also brought some other prominent supporters into the studio for his new album. Daniel Lopatin (alias Oneohtrix Point Never), Jam City, Thomas Bartlett (alias Doveman), Jack Peñate, Sampha and many more. The latter can also be heard in the first funky sing-along: "Everybody's Coming To My House".

And it shows: The name "American Utopia" says it all. It's about our world and our dissatisfaction with it, as well as about change and the search for a new path.
