Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts – Second Song

"Second Song" is the second studio album Neil Young recorded with the band The Chrome Hearts, and his third album overall following the live album "As Time Explodes," which was released in April. "Second Song" was produced by Lou Adler and the Volume Dealers (Neil Young and Niko Bolas). Anthony LoGerfo and Manny Adler served as co-producers.

The album features seven previously unreleased songs written by Young. Musically, this semi-acoustic album is reminiscent of earlier albums in Young’s repertoire, such as “Comes A Time” and “Prairie Wind.”

Every song on the new album gives the impression that Young is opening up a new perspective on the past, present, and future. The title track sets the tone: “Through smoking leaves of time the words just tumbled forward in this second song of mine…” (Through the smoking leaves of time, the words tumbled forward in this second song of mine…). The emotions of Young and so many of his loyal listeners seem to merge, as if his music were a place where they can find new inspiration and strength time and again. It allows listeners to glimpse the inner feelings that give Neil Young himself the faith he needs to overcome our deepest obstacles.

The album was recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu and produced and mixed by John Hanlon.
