Description:
Franz Liszt was possibly the greatest pianist that ever lived. There are few, if any, good sources that give an impression of how Liszt really sounded from the 1820s. With the recordings of “Aux Cypres”, some of the most attractive Liszt compositions are played with the utmost clarity and sometimes startling veracity of piano tone and color by Reinbert de Leeuw. The rippling and virtuoso jeux d’eaux of the central movement portrays the fountains at the Villa d’Este. “La Notte” is another late masterpiece, and also a work on which Liszt spent much time and effort in perfecting. Reinbert de Leeuw here did a very good job indeed.
