The daughter of U.S. musical star John Raitt did not celebrate her big breakthrough until 1990 with the Grammy and multi-platinum album "Nick Of Time. But Bonnie Raitt had already made it into the U.S. Top 40 in 1977 with "Sweet Forgiveness. The hit of her sixth Warner album was the single "Runaway", originally a hit for Del Shannon, which the "most expressive singer in the world" (Sounds) brushed up to a strong and cheeky R'B style. The gifted bottleneck guitarist had already emancipated herself from the purist blues of her early work, which earned her the Rolling Stone honorary title "New Artist Of The Year" in 1972, with "Streetlights" in 1974. she interpreted "Angel From Montgomery" so genuinely that this John Prine song became one of her classics, so to speak, which still appears again and again in her stage repertoire. But songs by Little Feat ("Fool Yourself"), Allen Toussaint ("What Do You Want The Boy To Do?") or West Coast friend Jackson Browne ("My Opening Farewell") were also in good hands with Bonnie Raitt on albums like "Homeplate". "Green Light" also reached the U.S. Top 40 in 1982 - and surprised many early fans with a fresh, more aggressive rock sound on songs like "Me And The Boys." Bonnie Raitt also appeared as a (co-)author on songs like "Can't Get Enough" and "I Can't Help Myself.
