"Stan Getz and the Oscar Peterson Trio", released by Verve Records in 1958, documents the rare meeting of two contrasting but complementary jazz greats: the relaxed tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and the brilliantly swinging, drummerless trio of Oscar Peterson. While the Oscar Peterson Trio was used to playing with various guest soloists from its "Jazz at the Philharmonic" performances, this was not an everyday situation for the tenor saxophonist. However, he mastered it with flying colors. A highlight of the album is a ten-minute ballad medley of no less than five well-known ballad jazz standards.
