Away from unrestricted dancefloor suitability, New Order, with the full tailwind of the Joy Division cult, prove that synth and electric guitar, or an unusual bass, are not natural opposites. On the contrary: in the sum of all elements, they do not complement homemade drum-bass-electric guitar music with electronic gimmickry, but mix electro into a perfect symbiosis without losing the straightforwardness. You listen to "Crystal" and immediately fall in love with this song. And then something happens that is really rare with albums. You listen to the second song and the third... and it gets better and better! No tepid pause fillers.

New Order achieve something that is really difficult. They set the bar very high at the beginning with Crystal and then raise it even higher over the course of the album. Wonderful. And the duet with Billy Corgan is one of the most beautiful tracks on this album.
