In the early 70s, television was an important means of promoting musicians in their own four walls. Frank Zappa, fully equipped with his touring light show and stage set-up, tried to record video footage for his own television production to offer to the major broadcasters. Just as with the filming of "The Roxy Performances" months earlier, there were technical problems that ultimately led to the footage being shelved.
50 years later, with the advances in post-production editing tools, we present "Cheaper Than Cheep". This new 2-hour concert program features classic performances from the 1974 Mothers lineup, direct from the newly restored original audio and videotape masters from the archive.
The official Zappa release No. 130 comes in a special limited Super Deluxe edition with the remastered concert video and brand new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround and stereo mix on a Blu-ray, the stereo soundtrack on 2 CDs and 3 LPs on 180 gram black vinyl, an extensive booklet with rare, previously unpublished images and liner notes by Ruth Underwood and Joe Travers, all packaged in a pull-out slipcase. Other formats include a complete 2-CD + Blu-ray and a stand-alone soundtrack on 3 LPs on 180 gram black vinyl.
