John Coltrane – The John Coltran Quartet Plays

The recordings for "The John Coltrane Quartet Plays" were made in 1965, shortly after the completion of the "A Love Supreme" album. John Coltrane's intention was to record another album of standard material. However, when the recordings were complete, they included "Nature Boy", the Disney song ("Chim Chim Cheree") and Coltrane's compositions "Brazilia" and "Song of Praise", whose hymn-like character already points to the saxophonist's late work. "The John Coltrane Quartet Plays" was the last album by the classic John Coltrane Quartet to be released during his lifetime.

Verve Acoustic Sounds series: completely analog mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original tapes, QPR pressing (180 g), sturdy tip-on gatefold (Stoughton Printing), padded inner sleeve.
