The Goon Sax - Mirror Ii

Riley Jones, Louis Forster and James Harrison have been best friends for ages and share a passion for music. Consequently, they manifested their friendship in a joint band back in their high school days - The Goon Sax were born.

"Mirror II" is already the third album by the Australian indie band, their debut on their new label Matador Records and also a departure into new worlds of sound. The debut album "Up To Anything", released in 2016, was a mixture of self-discovery and musical field trials, and the band had found their very own sound by the time of the follow-up "We're Not Talking" (2018). The three Australians took three years for "Mirror II". Louis moved to Berlin in the meantime, where he worked in a movie theater, while Riley and James formed a post-punk band called Soot. During this time, all three experimented with partly abstract music and atonal sounds, and now they are returning to pop. Each band member brings their own unique style of songwriting to the table. Riley's musical role models such as Les Rallizes Dénudés, Keijo Haino but also Kylie Minogue can be heard on "Desire" and "Tag".

Louis, on the other hand, is influenced by avant-garde pop. He loves bands like HTRK, Young Marble Giants and Stereolab, but also hits by pop artists like The 1975 or Justin Bieber. Songs like "Psychic" or "In the Stone" were born from these influences. His way of writing songs has repeatedly earned him comparisons with the great Australian band The Go-Betweens - no wonder, after all, Robert Forster is his father. The sound doesn't fall so far from the tree. James Harrison, in turn, is a great admirer of Syd Barrett, the Walker Brothers, Felt and Jandek, which you can hear in the psychedelic tracks "Carpetry" and "Caterpillars".
