Talking Heads ‎– Remain In Light

Back then, in 1980, veteran Talking Heads fans were somewhat - and pleasantly! pleasantly! - surprised by this album. Co-produced and co-written by Brian Eno, Byrne and his crew were joined by guitar god Adrian Belew, funk legends Bernie Worrell on keyboards and Steven Scales on percussion. Together with other players, this made for a much fuller and funkier sound than on the previous albums. The first three songs are single, extended dance parties in which musical and lyrical lines are repeated endlessly. In addition, there are absolutely catchy tunes that are still buzzing around in your head days later. "Once in a Lifetime" was the big hit, but the most rocking track is number three, "The Great Curve". Funk dominates the Heads' new wave sounds even more than on the previous album 'Fear Of Music' and Brian Eno's homogeneous production ensures that 'Remain In Light' is perceived as a whole, as a unit is perceived as a whole. What's amazing here is that despite the main ingredients - New Wave and funk - a psychedelic feeling is conveyed throughout. The fact that this is so groovy and danceable - despite all the electronic sounds of Eno and the synthesizer guitars of Belew - is somehow astonishing. remain In Light' is generally regarded as the magnum opus of the Talking Heads' oeuvre, and 30 years later it still exudes a tremendous fascination and freshness. It has aged well in terms of sound anyway.
