The album debuted at #10 on U. S. Billboard charts and was certified Platinum in 1998. The first 500, 000 copies of Cryptic Writings in the U. S. were released with silver background album cover. Instrumentally, the band introduced a more melodic mix than the previous albums, while stirring up a snarling brew of nasal yowls, crunchy riffs and speed-of-light guitar solos.
