Megadeth will bid farewell with a final album in early 2026. An album that will simply be called "Megadeth", because what else can you say about an album that is supposed to mark the end of four decades as a monolith of thrash metal?
For fans, it will undoubtedly be a wistful farewell to Dave Mustaine and co. But Mustaine himself reminds us that we should appreciate that Megadeth are calling it quits on their own terms. Before they burn out. Before other circumstances put an end to them, as we've seen so often with other bands.
"Megadeth" is a worthy and virtuosic finale that couldn't have come at a better time. Alienation and division are omnipresent in today's world, but as a final act Megadeth call for unity and solidarity. This also applies to their subsequent farewell tour, which they want to end in style and invite their fans to concerts where joy - and not sadness - is the driving force.
