The Wombats – Glitterbug

Indie rock between L. A. and Liverpool

The Wombats present their new, third album "Glitterbug". Los Angeles is one of the major themes on the new album. L. A. can also be seen on the cover, copied into the silhouette of a woman. This montage also reveals the second major theme of the album - love.

Songwriter and frontman of the Wombats, Matthew "Murph" Murphy, was inspired to write many of the lyrics by his stay in Los Angeles. He was fascinated by the often stark contrast between vainly flaunted wealth on the one hand and naked fear of survival on the other. "The album is about envy and toil and affectation and the worry and fear that surrounds a city like Los Angeles - like every other big city in the world." On "Glitterbug", "a stormy love affair with a fictitious woman from Los Angeles", as Murph describes it in his own words, is a second important theme that crops up again and again.

Bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis conceived the backing tracks in Liverpool, on the basis of which Murph worked out the songs in L.A. or in between in London. The basic musical idea was to revitalize the Wombats as a band. They wanted to put more love and passion back into their music, as they did on their debut album eight years ago.

With "Glitterbug", The Wombats can follow on directly from their last album "This Modern Glitch" - which helped them to their big breakthrough four years ago. Potential indie rock hits are definitely back. Bouncy bass and pulsating disco beats meet rock riffs and electronic sounds. Due to the many different influences, a lot happens in each track. Overall, the Wombats' alternative rock on "Glitterbug" is more pop.

The Wombats deliver a strong third album with "Glitterbug". The trio from Liverpool offers indie rock with a hit guarantee.
