Compared to the band's early albums, the production here is clearly better and at the height of the technical possibilities. Rarely has New Order's sound sounded clearer and Bernard Sumner sang better, especially his vocals, which have been greatly improved here, were and are a real plus on this album.
And: "Regret" is an absolute over-single. The calm "Ruined In A Day", "World", "Everyone, Everywhere" and "Liar" can also be recommended without reservation, the album is simply a great pop record and a lot catchier than the previous works, but never drifts off into randomness thanks to the great songs. An absolutely perfect pop record. But that has always been New Order's great strength, to fill a whole album and not just offer 2/3 singles and a bunch of filler material as an extra.
