Goo Goo Dolls – Hold Me Up

With the release of October 16, 1990, Hold Me Up signaled a major creative leap for the Goo Goo Dolls. While still carrying some of the grit of their earlier years, the album embraces a more melodic direction—leaning heavily into alternative rock and power pop. This shift coincides with John Rzeznik taking a more prominent front man role, a turning point that would define much of their later mainstream success. 
Hold Me Up is often regarded as the band’s first truly standout record—a bridge between their rough punk beginnings and the emerging songwriting depth that would lead to bigger stages. The track “There You Are" became their first notable single and music video, helping the band gain wider recognition beyond the underground scene. With its mix of hooks, attitude, and emotional range, the album remains a fan favorite and a cornerstone of their early catalogue.
