It all began in 1983 with the self-titled debut, which established this cheeky newcomer from Bay City, Michigan with irresistible bubblegum hits like "Holiday" and "Lucky Star" in the Top 40 in Germany as well. With the autobiographical "Like A Prayer" - six years later also a No. 1 album in this country - she was then not afraid to also consistently put her own vulnerability in the spotlight. But the "Artist of the Decade" (MTV) also ruled the '90s, not least with "Ray Of Light." Together with producer William Orbit, Madonna reinvented herself in ambient songs such as "Frozen" - and in 1999 she won four Grammies (including Best Pop Album and Best Dance Album) after being ignored for a long time at the most important U.S. music awards. With the electronically oriented album "Music," which she produced with the French underground DJ Mirwais, Madonna ushered in the new millennium. Even a riding accident with a broken collarbone and ribs could not prevent the now 47-year-old artist from making a triumphant return to the clubs and discos of this world with "Confessions On A Dance Floor" at the end of 2005. The monster single "Hung Up" (with a sample of the Abba classic "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"), which also received an "Echo", was number one in the charts in no fewer than 41 countries. No wonder Madonna was soon to be voted #3 most influential person in the world by Forbes Magazine....
