T.Rex - Electric Warrior

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, T.Rex’s seminal album ‘Electric Warrior’ is being reissued on 180g heavyweight vinyl and has been remastered at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios - the world’s leading specialist in the technique.

To be released on 29 April, the album comes housed in its original iconic artwork along with Abbey Road Obi and Abbey Road Certificate.

The release of ‘Electric Warrior’ was at a huge turning point for the band. Having formed in 1967, by 1970 they had released four albums under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex and were known for their psychedelic folk/rock sound giving them moderate success with a hardcore fanbase.

But it was from the bands fourth album (‘A Beard of Stars’) that their sound (and line up) started to change, Marc Bolan’s song writing was evolving and he shortened the bands name to T.Rex and released ‘Ride a White Swan’ as a stand-alone single which after a slow and steady build became their then biggest chart success peaking at number two.

That proved to be the beginning of great chart success and the band's popularity started to grow. They released their self-titled album at the end of 1970, breaking into the top 10 album chart for the first time before then scoring their first UK number one with another stand-alone single ‘Hot Love’ in February 1971.

But it was in September 1971 with the release of ‘Electric Warrior’ that saw the band go stratospheric! Produced, like its predecessor, by the legendary Tony Visconti, it topped the UK album charts twice, from December 18 1971 to January 29 1972 and again from February 5 1972 to February 19 and it gave the band its initial success in the US.

The album's singles ‘Get It On’ ‘Jeepster’ reached number one and two respectively in the UK chart with ‘Get It On’ still being the bands best selling single to date. For many it is this album that started the Glam Rock movement with Marc Bolan very much front and centre.
