Green Day – Saviors

Limited Deluxe Indie Edition, Clear W/ Hot Pink Splatter Vinyl

In October 2023, Green Day returned with a passionate call to action: "The American Dream Is Killing Me" is the title of their single, with which the punk world stars aka Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool also announced the release of a new album: "Saviors" will be released on January 19, 2024 via Reprise/Warner Records.

"The American Dream Is Killing Me" is the opening track of the upcoming album and was one of the last tracks Green Day wrote and recorded for "Saviors". They immediately sensed what it contained: "As soon as we had it in the can, we said: 'Okay, this one comes first'," says Billie Joe Armstrong, who describes the new song as "a look at the fact that the traditional 'American Dream' is no longer valid for many people - on the contrary: it actually harms many people."

"Saviors" was recorded in London and Los Angeles. The power of the collaboration between the rock icons and the Grammy-winning producer is well known from their previous collaborations on two of the most iconic albums in the band's catalog, "Dookie" (1994) and "American Idiot" (2004). That very 'Dookie' celebrates its 30th birthday in early February 2024.

Founded in 1986 in Berkeley, California, Green Day are one of the most successful bands of all time, with over 75 million albums sold worldwide and over 10 billion audio/video streams. Their breakthrough album Dookie, released in 1994 - which sold over 10 million copies and achieved 10x platinum diamond status in the USA (3x gold in DE) - is generally credited with reviving public interest in punk rock. For Green Day, the work marked the beginning of a career full of #1 hit singles. Entertainment Weekly calls Green Day "the most successful band of their generation", Rolling Stone attests: "Green Day have motivated more young bands to follow their path than any other act beyond KISS - and that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon." in 2004, Green Day released the rock opera American Idiot, which brought them widespread attention, sold more than 8 million copies in the USA alone and won a Grammy for "Best Rock Album". Mojo explained: "It's exhilarating stuff, the kind of album that pushes the boundaries of what's possible for a punk rock'n'roll band in the 21st century." in 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot premiered on Broadway to great critical and audience acclaim. Most recently, the thirteenth studio album "Father Of All..." was released in 2020 (Reprise/Warner Records), which reached No. 1 in the USA and UK and No. 2 in Germany, among others, and prompted Pitchfork to write: "Green Day's most infectious and youthful songs in a long time. The trio sound like newborns, more like hungry newcomers staking out their territory."

Just over a year after the successful first release, "Saviors (édition de luxe)" will be released in May 2025 via Reprise Records.

This expanded edition of the Grammy-nominated 14th studio album contains seven additional, previously unreleased tracks alongside the well-known hits, including exclusive acoustic versions of "Suzie Chapstick" and "Father to a Son". The response to "Saviors" has already been outstanding - with a top #2 placing in the German charts and three Grammy nominations, the album underlines Green Day's continued relevance and creativity.
