The new studio album of primitive metal from the Nordic cavemen.

In the year of the 40th anniversary of the founding - back then still under the name Black Death - of the band that would later become influential genre legends, the immortal Norwegian duo Fenriz & Nocturno Culto return in 2026 with their new work of top-class old metal under the title "Pre-Historic Metal". Fenriz himself explains the symbolic meaning of the title: "Prehistoric is an elastic term. I just think it describes our mood, our approach, and it's more of a statement that we're using old styles to create something new."

"Pre-Historic Metal" comprises eight tracks of primal epics and gigantic riffs with an organic sound and the omnipresent spirit of the 70s and 80s - a continuation of the mastery already heard on "It Beckons Us All" (2024). This next chapter in Darkthrone's extensive and ever-growing catalog presents a vast odyssey through the sonic landscapes of thrash, black, heavy and doom metal. With a brute and direct guitar presence, Darkthrone stirs the cauldron of wild creativity, referencing the songwriting methods of their earlier works from the late 80s, but with refined technique.

"Pre-Historic Metal" was recorded at Chaka Khan Studios in Oslo. The album was produced by Ole Øvstedal, Silje Høgevold and Mads Luis. The mastering was done by Jack Control at Enormous Door and Maor Appelbaum Mastering.
