Charles Brackeen – Rhythm X

In the late 1960s, saxophonist and producer Clifford Jordan recorded three albums later known as the Dolphy Series, released by Charles Tolliver and Stanley Cowell’s Strata-East Records. That includes saxophonist Charles Brackeen’s Rhythm X, featuring the backing band of another modern giant, Ornette Coleman. With Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell, Brackeen’s debut album as a leader stands as a nod to the birth of free jazz and post-bop spiritual jazz.
