There are not many artists who can persuade a Mick Jagger to please sing some background for them. Especially not in 1972, but it was the year of Carly Simon. Not only because the Rolling Stones singer gave her "You're So Vain" a facelift, but also because this single, like the album "No Secrets", marched through to the top of the US charts. And happiness was perfect for the time being, when the daughter of the New York publisher Richard Simon (Simon & Schuster) married in November of that year, no, not Mick Jagger, but at least the colleague James Taylor. Clearly, this relationship was soon good for musical added value. Their duet "Mockingbird", originally an RnB song by Charles and Inez Foxx in 1963, became a hit in 1974, and Taylor also appeared as a musician on the accompanying album "Hotcakes" 

At first, however, Simon's career had a hard time getting off the ground. After an early album with Dylan manager Albert Grossmann in 1966 did not materialize, she worked in the meantime as a secretary and copywriter. But then the time was ripe for the bell-bright voice and the sensitive power of observation of the "best new artist 1971" (Grammy). Carly Simon also managed the leap into the 80s with the album "Come Upstairs" without loss of quality. Even if Mick Jagger was now no longer there.
