From the opening notes of composer Max Steiner's ominous main theme, it's obvious that his score virtually defined the musical language of adventure movies. It's also packed with rapid-fire, sometimes un-PC lines, such as "I sure hope the Captain knows the native lingo," and chucklers like, "She's the only woman on a ship full of the toughest looking mugs," which makes following the story line very entertaining. And that closing line, "Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty that killed the Beast," is less a cornball cliché than the punch line to a timelessly powerful story. No doubt about it, Kong still rules.
