MY WINTER STORM: TARJA'S DEBUT ALBUM FROM 2007 CELEBRATES IT’S 15th ANNIVERSARY
EXCLUSIVE & LIMITED 2LP COLOURED VINYL EDITION IN BLUE WILL BE RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 04th, 2022!
Suomi, the Finnish name of the nation high in the north of Europe, is not only the so-called "Land of a Thousand Lakes”, but has also been a constant source of highly interesting rock music for decades. One of the most successful acts from Finland is the symphonic rock formation Nightwish, which came into being in the mid-1990s world success. Singer Tarja Turunen, a trained soprano and at the same time a founding member of the group, left about ten years later and started releasing music under her own first name in 2006. Initially with her Finnish released Christmas album "Henkäys Ikuisuudesta" and in 2007 with her first rock opus "My Winter Storm", which reached number 3 in the German charts achieved gold status and is considered her actual solo debut. To mark the 15th anniversary, this monumental first album will be re-released for the first time and exclusively as a limited-edition double LP on blue vinyl on 04.11.2022.
Tarja, born in 1977, is an absolute vocal phenomenon. On all the albums she has released since then, whether classically oriented, recorded live or committed to symphonic rock, but especially on her very first work "My Winter Storm", she proves this wonderfully. Just take the album opener "I Walk Alone" with its concise hard rock refrain, the whispering and hymn-like metal riffs of "Lost Northern Star" or the breathtaking orchestration in "The Reign", where she creates an elegiac gem in clear soprano. The entire process of creating this debut was also exciting. Recorded in studios in Ireland, Finland, Swiss or the USA, a multitude of partners were involved in the songwriting, which is then also reflected in the stylistic diversity of the songs. The German guitar player Alex Scholpp (Farmer Boys), violin dervish Lili Haydn and bass legend Doug Wimbish (Sugarhill Gang, Living Colour) as well as the Czech Film Orchestra including a complete choir contributed to the colourfulness of the sound in the studio.
The newly reissued edition on blue vinyl also features 3 additional tracks that were not included on the very first CD edition. For one, "The Seer" both in Tarja's own original and in a duet with German rock legend Doro Pesch, plus the feverish metal number "Enough" with the Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro (currently with Megadeth) and the atmospheric ballad "Wisdom Of Wind" recorded in China with the Beijing Philharmonic setting the tone for fantastic soprano cascades. The winter storm can come ...
