John Lee Hooker: Blues Roots

John Lee Hooker is one of the greats of the blues. With his mixture of singing and speaking and his infectious beats, he became a world star. He developed a completely new sound. His electrically amplified guitar and his instrumental pieces, accompanied only by the clacking of bottle caps under the soles of his shoes, were groundbreaking.

His style also includes song lyrics that often do not rhyme, even when rhyme seems unavoidable. Countless songs dominated the R&B charts in the 1950s and 60s, later he even celebrated great success with his blues in the pop charts. His music repeatedly crossed borders and generations. His guest appearance in the cult film "Blues Brothers" is legendary, and Depeche Mode used one of his guitar riffs for the song "Personal Jesus". Hooker won his first Grammy at the age of 72 and is now part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
