In this love letter to Canada, Adams explores new musical territory, drawing on country, folk, and rock to tell stories inspired by the people, places, and history of his homeland. “How’s It Goin’” might just be the most Canadian album ever written!
Inspired by the landscapes, characters, stories, and current events that are all part of Canada’s ongoing history, Adams explores a unique, new musical landscape on “How’s It Goin’.” In addition to the unmistakable songwriting and voice that have always been at the heart of his music, the album introduces elements of country and folk, giving it a warm, authentic character.
The songs include “Diesel and Dirt,” “How’s It Goin’,” “Iron Ribbon,” and “The Battle of Lundy’s Lane.”
“The idea was simply to make an album about Canada,” says Adams. “It started when I wrote the song for the documentary *Canada’s Wild Eastern Edge*, and after doing so much research, I was inspired to write more songs about Canada. Musically, that also took me into slightly different territory, which made the whole thing very exciting.”
One of the album’s most moving moments is “The Ballad of Terry Fox,” Adams’ tribute to one of Canada’s most inspiring figures. The song will also be featured in the upcoming new documentary about Terry Fox titled “Run Terry Run.”
“How’s It Goin’” embraces Adams’ roots and delivers an album that is at times personal, at times cinematic, and occasionally contemplative—but always unmistakably Adams.
