The classic collaboration between Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart in May 1975 led to a flood of new compositions, a tour and finally an album. "Bongo Fury" consists mainly of live recordings from the Armadillo Headquarters in Austin, Texas, as well as some studio recordings from The Record Plant in Los Angeles. The album is a memorable addition to the Zappa catalog and the last to feature the band name "Mothers" before it was abandoned in 1976.
This new 50th Anniversary Edition features an all-analog mastering of the main album by Bernie Grundman on 180g black vinyl from the original master tapes. It also includes a bonus disc of highlights from the 6-disc box set, a lithograph print and a booklet with unseen photos and liner notes by band member Denny Walley and Vault master Joe Travers.
