Rhiannon Giddens & Francesco Turrisi – They're Calling Me Home

Rhiannon Giddens' new album "They're Calling Me Home", recorded with Italian multi-instrumentalist Multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, is released on released on Nonesuch. 

Giddens and Turrisi, who both live in Ireland when they are not on tour, have been living there since March 2020 as a result of the pandemic the two emigrants realized in the situation that they to the music of their - native and adopted - homelands of America Home countries of America, Italy and Ireland felt attracted. Exploring the feelings of the moment, Giddens and Giddens and Turrisi moved to Hellfire, a small studio on a working farm on a working farm outside Dublin, where they recorded these songs recorded these songs over the course of six days over the course of six days. 

The result is They're Calling Me Home, an album album of 12 tracks that tell of the longing for the security of a home as well as the metaphorical "call to Home" - death - which for so many during the Covid-19 sad reality for so many during the Covid-19 crisis. Minstrel banjo, Accordion and frame drums, which have become characteristic of the duo's sound, once again play a leading role on the Again play a leading role on the album, but it is the Combination of viola and cello-banjo that creates creates unexpected emotion and intensity.
