Oscar Peterson – Songbooks + (14 Original Albums + Bonustracks)
"It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing", this legendary quote from his colleague Duke Ellington best expresses what jazz actually is for Oscar Peterson.
And what better confirmation of this than this box set? It contains the sonic proof in the form of some of the best albums Peterson has recorded, including "At The Stratford Shakespearean Festival" and "At The Concertgebouw". The trio formation occupies a special place in Peterson's career. Both constellations - with bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Herb Ellis or Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen on drums - have remained unrivaled in these combinations.
In the years from 1958 onwards, further classics such as "Porgy & Bess", "Swinging Brass", or recordings of songbooks by Duke Ellington george Gershwin and Cole Porter.
As a bonus, the fantastic 1957 album "Anita Sings The Most" by Anita Anita O'Day, who was greatly admired by Peterson.
