The problem with a groundbreaking album like 2013's "Everblack" is that the bar is set very high for its successor. That The Black Dahlia Murder took up the challenge with the grueling "Abysmal" only demonstrates once again that they are one of the leading bands in contemporary death metal. "Going into the album, we knew it was going to be something special," recalls vocalist Trevor Strnad. "It's more urgent, dynamic and emotive, not to mention its angrier, rawer sound. It's still raging death metal, but we've put a lot of thought and emotion into it, which is why the record stands out, and we can proudly say, yes, this is our best work to date."
